The Bucharest Church celebrated the 70th anniversary of the rest of Saint Matrona
A large number of believers gathered at the Church of St. Nicholas – Tabacu in Bucharest to honor Saint Matrona on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of her blessed rest on Monday morning May 2, 2022.
“It was a special atmosphere because the service took place early in the morning, by candlelight, during this Easter season, immediately after we saw that the Apostle Thomas believed in the Resurrection and told us so. confirmed,” said parish priest Eugeniu Rogoti.
“The service was attended by believers who love the saint, including Russian and Ukrainian Orthodox believers. We prayed together for peace during this Easter period,” added Fr. Eugeniu Rogoti.
The Divine Liturgy was followed by a memorial service for the founders of the church. During the service, priest-martyr Aurel Munteanu was also commemorated on his 140th birthday.
The Romanian Orthodox Church included Saint Matrona in its parish calendar in 2018. Since then, the Saint’s feast has been celebrated every year in this holy place frequented by the Russian community in Bucharest.
The Church of St. Nicholas Tabacu preserves part of the relics of St. Seraphim of Sarov and an icon of St. Matrona painted by the hieromonk Antipa Burghelea from the monastery of St. Anthimos.
